About this guide
You followed the formula: the degree, the job, the promotion. On paper it’s working, and it still doesn’t feel like enough. This guide starts from that gap between doing well and feeling fulfilled, and answers it with research instead of “follow your passion”, a phrase the psychology of career satisfaction barely mentions.
It explains why achievement fades so fast, and what the research says actually predicts fulfillment at work (title, salary and prestige are conspicuously not on the list). Then it gives you structured self-diagnostic tools, a decision framework that goes beyond “stay or quit”, and a 30-60-90 day plan. It also helps you tell unfulfillment apart from burnout and impostor thoughts, which need different fixes.
Who it’s for
- You’re doing fine on paper and can’t explain why it doesn’t feel like enough.
- You want a decision that rests on evidence, not on a bad week, a difficult manager or a friend’s job posting.
- You’d like to test changes privately first: most of the plan can start this week without telling anyone.
What it isn’t
It isn’t therapy, medical or mental-health advice, or a promise that a new job or a redesigned role will make you happy. If you’re burned out, the guide says the first move is rest, lighter workload or professional support, and includes a check to help you tell.

Questions
About this guide
Will this tell me whether to quit?
No, and it says so. It helps you work out what you specifically need from work, then gives you a framework that goes beyond “stay or quit”: a well-researched middle option, redesigning the role you already have, which it helps you test over 30 days before you decide anything irreversible.
How do I know if it’s unfulfillment or burnout?
Chapter 3 opens with a short check based on the World Health Organization’s three burnout dimensions. If burnout is the bigger problem, the guide says so plainly: rest, a lighter workload or professional support come first, before the rest of the work.
